The Warhammer Team came out joint sixth of 14 in the national semi-finals in Nottingham on Tuesday. The team were up against students four years older than our average Year 8 studentso this was an achievement. The team will be entering next year although regrettably their adviser?Joe Wilkinson?will be leaving us to start his university degree.George Wood?picks up the story:
On Tuesday 2nd March at 8am, eight of this schools finest were in a minibus on their way to Nottingham for the semi-finals of the War Hammer Kill Team Competition. The team of 8 (Jack Dowthwaite,?Will Whitton,?Myles Ravenscroft,?Joe Glentworth,?Ethan Brook,?Charles Barnett,Jacob Terry?and?(of course)George Wood) each played three games against competitors from other schools. Most of the other contestants were significantly more experienced than the Caistor teams. Our opponents were keen to capitalise on their armies’ strengths and punish the challengers from Caistor Grammar School.
Despite our inexperience, we persevered, regrouped and when the battles concluded we were delighted to discover we had come joint sixth out of 14 teams, only 9 points away from a place in the finals.
After the competition we took part in a Tetris /Warhammer mashup. Finally we looked at the Hall of Miniatures which is an exhibit of Warhammer models, bases, custom maps and battles.
Despite not getting through to the final we all had a great day and had lots of fun. We would like to thank Mrs Donoghue and Mrs Glentworth for arranging the event and taking us; we hope they enjoyed it as much as we did. We’re grateful to?Joe Wilkinson?who supported us.
Alston Rodrigues(Y10) has been awarded a substantial travel bursary to enable him to further his study of German over the next few years. Previous award holders have gone onto read languages at university.Emily Sharman?(Y11) has secured one of only 10 places for a one-week work experience placement at the House of Commons this summer. Emily will have a busy summer as she has also a speech and drama bursary a couple of weeks ago at the Lincoln Festival.
