Please be aware that the House Drama competition will take place on Wednesday 6 March in the Town Hall (performed in the morning to students in Years 7 and 8 and in the afternoon to students in Years 9 and 10).? This will be an own clothes day for students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 with a ￡1 collection on the day.? This will be followed by public performances of all of the House plays in the Town Hall on that same evening Wednesday 6 March at 7pm.? You are most welcome to join us and the event will finish at approximately 9pm.? There will be a short interval at around 8pm.? Please keep the date in your diary.? A letter about arrangements for supervision of performers before the evening performance will be sent to parents of performers on ParentMail on Monday 25th February.? For safeguarding arrangements, it is essential that this form is completed by parents of performers.? We look forward to seeing you on the evening.
There was some confusion when we looked after students between the end of School and House Music last term.? Please note that if you reply that you want your child to stay after School, they must stay at school – it is not an option.? If you change plans, please let us know in good time, preferably before noon on 6 March.
I wanted to share some students’ extra-curricular success …
Daisy Williams (Y8) was competing for the School in the 1m 10 Hickstead Qualifier.? With over 170 entries in the day it was a very popular qualifying show.? First to go on her young 5 year old Bermudez BDA, Daisy set the pace by going clear in a good time.? Many others tried beating her but knocked poles down.? The second to last competitor just pipped her time, and on her second pony, Kingsley II, Daisy did another skilled double clear taking second place. Kingsley did her proud and so has qualified for the finals at Hickstead and Bermudez qualified for the Championships by coming 3rd.? A fantastic result for CGS’ equestrian team.
Oliver Bradley (Y10) is currently in training so that he can qualify for the third year in a row for the British Swimming Championships.? He was finalist for young sports star of the year in November at the “Heart of your community” Awards.? At his swimming club’s presentation evening in December, Oliver was awarded a local sponsorship of ￡250.? He swims 14/16 hours a week, mostly before and after school as most weekends are taken up at galas across the country.? He also finds the time to train juniors at his Cleethorpes club.
Friends’ Race night
The School’s Friends are now selling tickets on ParentMail for their family race night on Friday 8 March at 7pm.? Tickets are ￡5 each, with meal options of Fish and Chips, Sausage and Chips and Veggie Sausage and Chips.
Year 7 Family TV quiz night
Friday evening last week seems like a long time ago now.? School held its first TV quiz night for Year 7 families, replacing the Treasure Hunt.? It was a very popular evening, full of good humoured competition.? Congratulations to Ethan Holmes-Barber’s team on their win.
Have a good weekend – despite the freeze,
